Finally Turkey managed to get rid of the 6
zeros !!! From 2005 January on we do have two currencies in Turkey:
the zero rich Turkish Lira (TL) and the New Turkish Lira (YTL) with New
Kurush (YKR). In 2005 both currencies would be valid. End of the year
TL would only be valid at the Turkish Central Bank.

The 1th national
monetary unit is the Turkish lira (TL.). The coinage is in
50.000, 100.000, and 250.000 lira pieces. Bank notes are of 500.000,
1.000,000, 5.000.000, 10.000.000 and 20.000.000 Turkish Lira.
2th and new national
monetary unit is the New Turkish lira (YTL.). The coinage is in
1, 5, 10, 25, 50 new Kurush (yenikuruş) pieces. Bank notes are of 1,
5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 new Turkish lira (Yeni Türk Lirası).
Exchange Rates:
The exchange rates for foreign currencies
are published daily. You could check the value of your currency from the
Currency Converter. You may exchange your money either in Post or Bank
offices (open daily (Except Saturday and Sunday) between 09:00 to 17:00),
Exchange offices (In touristic places are generally open until midnight),
or at your hotel. You would get the best rate at the exchange office and
the lowest at your hotel.
Checks:
Euro checks can be cashed immediately; so can
traveler's checks upon producing identification. You may exchange
traveler's checks at Post Offices in touristy places and at certain banks.
Credit Cards:
The most widely accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard. Eurocard, Diner's Club
and Amex are also used.
