Right on Eminönü square, Hamdi is a hot favourite among Istanbul natives, particularly business lunchers and carniverous fans of south-eastern Turkish food. Hamdi serves meat 'alaturca' at its very best, grilled to succulent perfection on the mangal. The restaurant occupies four floors, but the top one is the most memorable.

Situated in an enclosed glass terrace, it offers sweeping views of the Golden Horn and Beyoglu. It's particularly lovely in the summer, when the windows are opened completely. Otherwise, opt for the curious Oriental Saloon on the first floor, kitted out with cuckoo clocks and startled nymphs.
